History is among one the most popular optional subject for Civil Services Mains Exams. The popular misconception about this subject is it’s necessary to learn many facts and figures and recollect them for exam! Well, it’s the very wrong idea. This paper is all about understanding the changes took place in past with respect to human civilization.

The subjects have dual benefits both in UPSC prelims and mains of general studies papers. In Prelims it grabs a total mark of 30 to 40 out of the cut off 90-100.In Mains GS I paper around 100 out of 250.Every aspirant needs to cover most of the parts of History in GS including Ancient, Medieval, Modern and World History and Culture.

Like other optional papers, History is not technical at all. One does not need to study about many theorist, scholars and philosophers. Most of the topics in history will also be helpful in the Essay & and paper-IV of General Studies as well.
